2007 Test Of Proficiency-Huayu ( TOP) is accepting applications

 

 

The Ministry of Education of the Republic of China invites applications from non-native Chinese speakers over 16 to participate in the 2007 Test Of Proficiency-Huayu ( TOP), an assessment system developed and promoted by the Steering Committee for the Test of Proficiency-Huayu, affiliated with the National Taiwan Normal University. This test is for people who wish to know their level of Chinese proficiency, or for those who want to study, work, or do business in Chinese-speaking countries.

 

The TOP test is administrated on four levels: beginner, basic, intermediate, and advanced.   Beginner and basic level will be offered to examinees in the United States. Test takers who pass in the basic level will receive a certificate. The certificate can serve as a Chinese proficiency credential for:

-        Applying for the Taiwan Scholarship

-        Applying for academic programs at colleges or universities in Taiwan

-        Serving as a reference for Chinese subjects for the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students

-        Serving as a job-required proof of Chinese language proficiency

 

All applications must submitted by mail or in person to the Cultural Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in New York (Address: 1 East 42nd Street, 6th Floor, New York, NY 10017) before March 15, 2007. Please download and fill out the application, available at www.edutwny.org and include the following additional documents:

1. Three photos

2. Valid passport or ID copy

3. Payment.  Basic level is $28 and can be paid by cash or check.  Beginner level is free.

 

After reviewing the application and documents, the Cultural Division, TECO in New York (Tel:212-317-7388/email:newyork@edutwny.org) will select eligible test takers and send permission to take the test to applicants by March 26, 2007.  The date of test will be 10:00-11:50 A.M., April 15, 2007.  The venue of test will be the AIM ACADEMY.  The address is 36-21 Prince Street, Flushing, NY 11354 (5 minutes walk from the final stop “Main Street” off Train p/ Tel:718-445-6633/ email: chen@capsc.org).
