Provisions of the Ministry of Education's Program to Assist
Foreign Sinologists Carry Out Research in the R.O.C.
1. These provisions are specified by the Center for Chinese Studies according
to the Ministry of Education's Program to Assist Foreign Sinologists Carry
Out Research in the R.O.C.
2. The objective of the Program is to assist foreign professors, associate
professors, assistant professors, and doctoral candidates from foreign
university departments concerned with Chinese studies, as well as
researchers at research institutes, in carrying out Chinese studies
research in the R.O.C. 3. Highlights of this assistance for research
include:
a. Providing research materials.
b. Liaison with research organizations.
c. Use of CCS Facilities, etc.
4. Sinologists coming to the R.O.C. with no other subsidy may apply to CCS for
a travel or research grant. Recipients must be foreign Sinologists who are
not already carrying out research in the R.O.C.
5. The standards set by the Program for grants are as follows:
a. Round trip economy class air fare is available, with reimbursement of
recipients upon their arrival in Taiwan.
b. Grants are based on the status of recipients and are divided into four
levels: full professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and
doctoral candidates. Researchers at research institutes will also
receive grants according to the above scale. The actual amount of
grants is determined by the Center and any adjustments in the size of
grants will be duly announced.
6. Grant recipients are required to sign a contract with CCS and complete all
procedures.
7. The length of research tenure will be limited to a period of three months
to one year, and grants will be given based on the actual length of research
tenure. Aside from transportation and research grants, CCS will subsidize
no other expenses.
8. Those receiving subsidies must observe the following obligations:
a. No outside employment will be allowed without prior approval of CCS.
Concurrent acceptance of aid from any other organization in the R.O.C.
is not permitted.
b. Participation in all CCS scholarly research activities is required.
c. A thesis or report must be submitted at the end of the research tenure,
before taking leave of CCS.
9. Those who fail to observe the above measures will have their subsidies
terminated by CCS.
10. Clarification or amendment of any of the above provisions shall be carried
out by the Grant Committee, as authorized by the CCS Advisory Committee.
