Cultural Division of TECO-Houston Co-Sponsoring“International Conference on Security Management”in Houston

The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) in co-sponsorship with this office held “International Conference on Security Management” on August 12, 2005 at Commerce Street Building of UHD.

The primary purpose of initiating the Conference is to provide a forum within which issues critical to the security of our homes, our work and our commerce can be shared, analyzed, and evaluated. This Conference also addresses concerns about both international and local terrorism and provides a venue for the discussion of how international and local groups may cooperate in combating terrorism in all its implications.

Hosting scholars from diverse fields of expertise as well as from various areas of the world the conference on current issues in security management provided a venue for public discussion and international exchange in several respects. Issues discussed in the Conference includes money laundering schemes, managing global security for retail business, terrorism in schools: learning from Beslan, Russia, port and cargo serucity, a study of polls on Taiwanese sense of pubic safety, and etc..

A delegation led by Mr. Yi-An Lo, Vice President of Central Police University (Taiwan), also presented papers in the Conference. On behalf of Central Police University, Vice President Lo signed a partnership agreement with UHD to enhance exchange programs which includes graduate student exchange, faculty exchange, collaborative research and joint conferences.
