Cynthia Chi of Texas is named as 2004 US Presidential Scholar
Cynthia Chi, a newly graduate of Clamon High School of Sugar Land, Texas, is honorably named as one of the 2004 Presidential Scholars, one of the America's highest honors for high school students. On behalf of Director General Liao of TECO in Houston, Mr. Yuri Chih, Director of Cultural Division, presented a souvenir to Ms. Chi at a celebration gathering on August 21, 2004, to encourage her outstanding achievement.Ms. Chi will be a freshman of HarvardUniversity in Fall, majoring in Physics.Both of her parents were from Taiwan in 1978.
The United Stated Presidential Scholars Program (USPSP) was established in 1964 to recognize and honor some of America's most distinguished graduating high school seniors.Each year 141 students (the maximum) are named as Presidential Scholars.The USPSP annually selects one male and one female student from each state, 15 at-large students, and up to 20 students in the artson the basis of outstanding scholarship, service, leadership and creativity through a rigorous selection and review process administered by the US Department of Education.
