Teaching Staff:

The program has twenty-four full-time and part-time instructors. Teachers must be holders of bachelor's or master's degrees. Candidates for teaching positions are interviewed and undergo a trial teaching period. The student/teacher ratio is 6:1.

Facilities:

Nine classrooms, a library, and a language lab with forty stations. Students are permitted to use the university library.

Students:

Distribution by national origin: Most students come from Korea, Japan, and the United States. Others come from Europe.

Admissions:

Students must be 18 years of age or older, and at least graduated from high school. Applicants must provide study plan, transcripts (in English), photocopy of official transcript, original diploma, letters of recommendation, health certification (including results of HIV test), guarantee of support (at least US$2,500 per quarter), and three photographs. Documents should be
submitted at least one month prior to the term in which the student intends to register. Registration procedures include placement test, tuition payment, and class selection.

Calendar:

A new term begins each month. There are twelve terms per year; each term lasts for twelve weeks.

Tuition:

Fees are NT$14,000 per term, allowing 10 hours of instruction per week.

Living Expenses:

US$600 per month.

Curriculum and Instruction:

Levels of instruction are divided into elementary, intermediate, and advanced. Students may register for two hours of class per day, ten hours per week.

Extracurricular Activities:

The Chinese Language Program sponsors various activities to facilitate communication with Chinese students.

Scholarships:

The Center offers no scholarships or financial aid to its students. However, after successfully completing three months of full time study, students are eligible to apply for scholarships offered by the ROC Ministry of Education. Please see Appendix II for further information.

Transcripts or Certificates Awarded:

At the end of each term, students are given progress reports.

Transfer Credit:

Students must make their own arrangements with their home institutions.
